If you’ve ever tried learning to play Guitar, chances are you know and realize just how tough that can be sometimes.
Whether you can’t get your strings to stop buzzing when playing chords…

OR
You can’t move between chords quickly enough…
OR
Your timing just isn’t what you feel it should be to actually play an entire all the way fluidly.
I’ve heard and seen students with these exact same struggles, and know that it can be very overwhelming.
You wonder if you’ll ever truly be able to play the way you desire.
If the songs you would truly love to play will ever come out of you and your playing.
I know the feeling -- but I also know the cure :)
I want to tell you a story about a guy named Ethan.
A few years ago, Ethan was just starting out on Guitar.
He had played Piano for several years, was progressing well, but just was looking to change it up - try something new.
So, Ethan began taking Guitar lessons with us at Rooted.
We got started that first day, ready to get playing t...
I’m excited to present another tutorial for you guys this week! “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong is a song that I love getting to lead. I love the power behind the lyrics of the song and the way God uses it to speak to us!
As you watch the tutorial, we are going to be diving deeper into the Key this song is in as well as into the chords of this song! You’ll walk away having a much better understanding of not only how to play this song, but also the Nashville Number System, which is used by most professional musicians to “speak the language” so to speak.
If you enjoy this video and would like more… More community, more tutorials, more coaching in both worship piano and guitar, I would love for you to check out an incredible membership program we have for you here:

Thanks for taking a few minutes out of your day to check in with us!
We have an amazing encouragement from one of our coaches, Jonathan Maiocco, that I think you’re going to absolutely love.
Jonathan is a skilled musician as well as piano and composition coach. He brings a lot to the table including a very thoughtful approach to music in general, but specifically practice.
For most of us, it’s all about our mindset. If we can get ourselves over the hump mentally, we’ll have an opportunity to see some incredible results.
Check out what Jonathan has for us above!

Today, I want to share with you one of the best finger exercises I know. I’ve used this same exercise to help students gain a better ability to play fluidly, consistently and have full confidence in their ability to play wide ranging styles of music in a variety of settings!
To find out about this exercise and to start working on it for yourself check out the video!

If you’re a bass player, you know that often times you get overlooked when it comes to recognition in a band setting and it sometimes can feel like what you’re doing does not matter as much as what other instruments are doing.
BUT…. This could not be farther from the truth!! Bass players play such an important role in a band setting and today I’m pumped to be able to share with you how big of a difference you CAN and WILL make!
If you’re ready to learn more and really hone your bass playing skills in a band setting, this video is for you!

This week, we have something really special for all of you aspiring or current worship leaders / musicians out there! I want to share with you 3 things you absolutely need to know before heading into your next worship event!
These 3 things are pieces that I’ve learned over the course of my time playing with artists Chris Tomlin, Christy Nockels and many others, and I’ve seen these three items work for other players as well!
These 3 items have the ability to literally be the reason why you would be asked back to play an event again or why you might have other opportunities down the road!! So, needless to say, they’re vitally important to any aspiring worship leader / musician!
So, if you’re excited to hear about these 3 pieces, let’s go ahead and jump in! Click the link above to check out the video.

Chances are, if you’ve spent much time around either a contemporary or traditional church over the last decade or two, you’ve heard the hymn: “Lord I Need Thee”, or the modern take on it called “Lord I Need You.”
Matt Maher and Chris Tomlin have both recorded modern versions of this incredible hymn that has blessed people all over the world.
I know I’ve had incredible times of worship, while singing this song. Such powerful words that I think you’ll find will usher you into the presence of God.
I love this song so much, that we had one of my good friends, Todd Locke (keys player for Lauren Daigle), video a piano tutorial of this song just for you!
I’d love for you to check it out and experience the amazing worship that follows as a result!

Have you ever listened to a professional piano/keys player and wonder how they can make the exact same chord progressions you play, sound infinitely better?
We’re all playing the same chords, so why do chord progressions that Matt Gilder (keys player for Tomlin) sound so much better than the average person?
I know I used to wonder this EXACT same thing. It wasn’t until I understood one key ingredient to any chord I played, that this was able to change for me.
The key is to begin to use Chord Inversions.
Inversions can take a bland sounding chord progression and make the chords sound so much more cohesive and better overall.
In today’s blog, we’re talking about what Chord Inversions are and how they can be used to enhance your music! Check out the video and let us know what you think!
